🇧🇷 Serra Azul is a municipality in the state of São Paulo in Brazil. The elevation is 610 m.
History The village that received the name of Serra Azul began in 1878, when the land was donated for the construction of the heritage of the Divine Holy Spirit of Serra Azul around a chapel already existing on the site. After seven years, on March 10, 1885, it was elevated to the parish in lands in the municipality of São Simão. On July 21, 1893, the district was created and after that there were two other land donations to increase the heritage of the future parish: on October 8, 1894 and February 27, 1889. Finally, on March 10, 1913, the Parish of Serra Azul was created and only 14 years later, on November 14, 1927, obtained political-administrative autonomy with the creation of the municipality. The name Serra Azul is related to the bluish outline of mountain elevations seen on the horizon, corresponding to the Serra de Batatais and cliffs to the north-west of the Mantiqueira System that extends to the municipality of Altinópolis.
