🇧🇷 São Joaquim da Barra is a municipality in the state of São Paulo in Brazil belonging to the Urban Agglomeration of Franca. The elevation is 625 m.

History The municipality has already been called Juçara, São Joaquim de Oiçaí, São Joaquim de Nuporanga, Capão do Meio and São Joaquim, the term "da Barra" was added to the name because of the Córrego da Barra, divisor of the municipalities of Ipuã and São Joaquim da Barra and usual landing of travelers and tropeiros on the route between.

The municipality emerged at the beginning of the 19th century, due to the exodus of the residents of the south of the province of Minas Gerais, attracted by the wealth of the land, the pleasant climate and good watery. The village of São Joaquim was born almost 100 years after this, in 1898.

The first residents and founders, especially Manuel Gouveia de Lima and his brother João Miguel de Lima, João Batista da Silveira and Francisco de Lima; scattered and isolated on the edges of streams and streams, felt the need for greater social life and organized a commission to obtain funds and acquire some lands that constituted the heritage of a village. José Esteves de Lima auctioned in a public auction, in the district of Nuporanga, on January 21, 1895, an area located on the farm "São Joaquim". Together with them came Manuel Damásio Ribeiro, first to establish a trading house in the region, called by him as "Casa Damásio", on the road that connected Batatais and Nuporanga to Sant'Ana dos Olhos d'Água (today Ipuã). Francisco Garcia Borges, one of the founders, was a great coffee grower, cattle farmer and capitalist.

On May 30, 1898, José Esteves de Lima and his wife Maria Teodora da Conceição signed the deed of donation of heritage for the construction of the first chapel of the village, which had as patron saint São Joaquim. The works began in 1901, and the district of São Joaquim was created by State Law No. 859, of December 6, 1902. The small village then began to receive numerous people who arrived from neighboring or distant territories, including Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. Also in 1902, the São Joaquim Station was inaugurated by Cia.Mogiana de Estradas de Ferro, which together with the first trading house boosted the growth of the municipality.

On December 19, 1906 it was taken to the category of village by law No. 1038. Created the municipality by state law No. 1588 of December 16, 1917, with dismembered territory of Orlândia, raising its headquarters to the category of city.

On November 30, 1944, by State Decree Law No. 14374, the name was changed to São Joaquim da Barra.

In 1979 the railway station was deactivated and replaced by another one far from the city, the rails that passed to the city centre were removed and gave space to what is now Av. Orestes Quércia.
