🇩🇪 Hallgarten is a quarter of Oestrich-Winkel, Hesse, Germany. It lies within the Rheingau wine region.
Its church, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, is a venue of the Rheingau Musik Festival.
1Geography: Location Hallgarten, as one of the Rheingau altitude places, is not located on the Rhine, but two km further north on a hillside below the clearing border of the Taunus forests. As a wine village, the place is surrounded by vineyards on all sides and offers a distant view to the south over the Rheinhessische Tafel- und Hügelland to the Donnersberg, 46 km away, and to the Odenwälder Bergstraße. 1500 meters north of the village, the settlement Am Rebhang, built into the edge of the forest, reaches up to a height of 400 meters.
Two and a half km north of Hallgarten rises the summit of the Hallgarter Zange (580.5 m above sea level). NN). The observation tower built there in 1909 offers the best view over the Rheingau. The mountain, which is about 1000 meters to the south, in front of the Taunus main ridge, has a higher perspective from the south than the highest elevation of the Rheingau, the wooded cold hostel (619.3 m). The forests of Hallgarten include the Mapper Schanze as the only surviving gate fortification of the Rheingauer Gebück and extend in the Hinterlandswald to the upper Ernstbach.
