Buildings • The most remarkable architectural monuments are Wolmirstedt Castle and the historic castle chapel as testimonies of brick Gothic. Locally referred to as the castle domain, the castle is now the seat of the branch of the Haldensleben District Court. In the 16th In the 19th century, the later Elector Joachim Friedrich of Brandenburg lived as an administrator at the then castle. During this time, it became a representative Renaissance residence (similar to Bernburg Castle). Later, the castle fell into disrepair, and to rebuild the destroyed city, many parts were removed at the end of the Thirty Years' War. In the 18th century, the castle received its present form in simple Baroque. Since that time, the castle has been used by the Prussian state as an agricultural domain. Buildings preserved today are the castle with chapel, the manor house (18. century), gatehouse, stables (today library) and field stone barn (district museum). The first documentary mention in 1014 describes an attack in 1009 on the eastern wall of the Oberburg. This wall has been preserved fragmentarily until recently and was to be addressed as the oldest building in the city. In 2007, the wall fragments were demolished to create car parking spaces for the 1000th anniversary of 2009.
