History The first documentary mention of the settlement, already inhabited in the era of the kings of the House of Árpád, dates back to 1323. The excavations revealed the foundations of an almost circular church, presumably this is where the settlement got its name later. During the Turkish occupation (16th century) the village was deserted. In 1745, with the consent of Maria Theresa, it was redeemed by the population of the Jászkun district (mostly of Jászárokaccommodation), at which time it took the name Jászkerekegyháza. In 1856, under the leadership of János Balatoni Farkas, captain of the Hungarian army in 1848, the settlement of the village, which took the name of Kerekegyháza in 1900, began. Today, the former Kunszentmiklós wilderness also belongs to Kerekegyháza, and since 1937 Kunpuszta also. However, the Philippines part became a municipality called Philippines.

Residents came from neighboring Hungarian settlements and Swabian villages. Furthermore, in the first decades of the twentieth century, in the hope of a better living, some Slovak (Tót) families of Roman Catholic religion arrived from the village of Terchova, which once belonged to the Žilina district of Trenčín County, located at the foot of the Lesser Fatra Mountains in the northern part of present-day Slovakia. Of these, descendants of the Czingel and Ondrus-Vribinszki families still live in the settlement.

The settlement was established in 2001. On July 1, it received the title of city.
