🇧🇷 São José do Rio Pardo is a municipality in the state of São Paulo in Brazil. It was founded by Colonel Antônio Marçal Nogueira de Barros in 1870. In the same year, a chapel to Saint Joseph was built. It became a municipality in 1885, when it was separated from Casa Branca. In the late 1800s and the early 1900s the town received a mass of immigration from northern Italy, those immigrants went to town for working in the coffee fields in replacement of the slave workforce, since slaves were set free in 1888 by an act of Princess Elizabeth.

Transport: Rail The city was served by rail between 1884 and 1989, more specifically by the Mococa Branch of the Mogiana Railway Company. In its last years of operation, tourist trains of the old Fepasa were operated, which connected the city with the municipality near the White House. However, due to the low movement of passengers, the railway extension was permanently deactivated. In the early 1990s, the rails were removed and an avenue was built on the site.

Education The municipality has two higher education institutions: the Euclides da Cunha College (FEUC) and a campus of the Paulista University (UNIP), in addition to a unit of the State Technical School (Etec de São José do Rio Pardo) of the Paula Souza Center (High School, Integrated High School - Informatics for Internet, Technical Education: Administration, Chemistry, Informatics and Occupational Safety) and also the Uninter University Center among others. and an extension of the Conservatory of Tatuí.
