๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Roseau is a city in, and the county seat of, Roseau County, Minnesota, United States. Hayes Lake State Park is nearby. Roseau County is in far northern Minnesota. Its northern boundary abuts Canada. The Roseau River drains the upper part of the county, flowing west into Kittson County on its way to the Hudson Bay. The county terrain consists of low rolling hills, devoted to agriculture, and dotted with lakes and drainages. There is considerable wooded area, especially in the south-east portion.

History A post office called Roseau has been in operation since 1895. The city took its name from the nearby Roseau River.

Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.67 square miles (6.92ย kmยฒ), all land.

Hayes Lake State Park is nearby.

Demographics As of the census of 2010, there were 2,633 people, 1,142 households, and 682 families living in the city. The population density was 986.1 inhabitants per square mile (380.7/kmยฒ). There were 1,288 housing units at an average density of 482.4 per square mile (186.3/kmยฒ). The racial makeup of the city was 97.6% White, 0.3% African American, 0.6% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.1% from other races, and 0.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.1% of the population.

There were 1,142 households, of which 31.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.5% were married couples living together, 10.0% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.2% had a male householder with no wife present, and 40.3% were non-families. 37.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 17.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.23 and the average family size was 2.91.

The median age in the city was 39.6 years. 26.1% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.1% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 24.9% were from 25 to 44; 25.3% were from 45 to 64; and 17.7% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 47.2% male and 52.8% female.

Economy Roseau is home to a manufacturing and plastic molding injection facility of Polaris Industries, a leading manufacturer of snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles.

Arts and culture The Scandinavian Festival is held each year and showcases the community's ethnic heritage. The Roseau Pioneer Farm and Village was established in 1975 and is an agricultural museum.

Sport Roseau High School has a strong hockey tradition, having competed in the Minnesota state hockey boy's tournament more than any other team in the state (most recently in 2014) and won the second-most state titles, behind Edina.
