🇲🇽 Matehuala is the second most important city in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí. Matehuala is also the municipal seat of the municipality of the same name, located in the northern part of the state, on the border with the south-western corner of Nuevo León.

Economy: Agriculture This activity has as main crops: corn, beans and barley, as a perennial crop that is important in the region is alfalfa.

The marketing of products due to human needs is destined for self-consumption and when there are surpluses it is marketed locally or to the same region.

Livestock According to INEGI, as of December 31, 1999, there was a total population of 5498 head of cattle, destined for the production of milk, meat and for work; 5,472 heads of pigs; 811 heads of sheep; 19,887 of goats; 4,348 of equine livestock; 291,359 poultry for meat and egg; 50 hives for honey production.

Forestry In the municipality, the forestry activity of timber products is carried out through rural production units.

Manufacturing industry The various manufacturing companies within the municipality are industrial establishments that employ various people.

Active population by sector According to figures from the year 2000 presented by the INEGI, the total economically active population of the municipality amounts to 26,745 people, while the employed population is 26,427; presenting as follows: Primary Sector (agriculture, livestock, hunting and fishing), 8.97 percent; Secondary Sector (mining, oil, manufacturing, construction and electricity), 34.82 percent; Tertiary Sector (trade, tourism

Historical monuments • Church of the Immaculate Conception. It has the same architectural style as that of Saint Joseph des Brotteaux, in Lyon, France; its construction began in 1898 and has not yet been completed. • Most Holy Church of Guadalupe. Located in the Ojo de Agua where it gave rise to the foundation of the city, it is the oldest, which dates from the 16th century. • Church of San Salvador. Representative of the municipality, it dates from the 18th century. • Exhacienda de Los Patos. • House of Juárez. • Hidalgo House. • Bullring "Santiago J. Vivanco". • House of the Portals. • Ruins of what was the Founding Asarco American Smelting and Refining Co.

Parties, dances and traditions • Feast of the Immaculate Conception. From November 29 to December 8. • Feast of the Lord of Matehuala. From December 28 to January 6. • Matehuala Regional Fair. From December 26 to January 10 • Party in San Antonio. On June 13th. • Commemoration of the foundation of Matehuala. From July 8th to 16th. • Traditional Feast of Kings. From January 1st to 6th, traditional feast of the Three Kings. • Charamusca Fair. Good Friday every year, in Vicente Guerrero Park (popularly known as "El Pueblo") • St. Jude Thaddeus festival in different neighborhoods of the city, mainly in "La Dichosa".

Vicente Guerrero Park, better known as "El Pueblo" was nicknamed because, in previous times, it was part of the city centre and the people of the nearby ranches used to use the term "Voy al pueblo" when they went shopping or some matter to the centre of Matehuala.

Handicrafts and gastronomy Leather goods and regional sweets, paper and fabric flowers, hedgehoe cages, ixtle objects, hats and jarcise. • Dishes: Wedding roast, prepared boos, picadillo, tamales and goat cheese. • Drinks: pulque and mezcal. • Sweets:cajeta, peach jam, custard, chewing gum, wafers, glories, tuna cheese and mezquite cheese. Many of these products are made and distributed throughout the country by the traditional candy factory Las Sevillanas (Matehualense company), which also makes sausages.
