🇧🇩 Gazipur is a city in central Bangladesh. It is located in the Gazipur District. It is a major industrial city located 25 km north of Dhaka. It is a hub for Garments Industry of Bangladesh. 75% of all the garments industries are situated here. It is one of the biggest and fastest growing cities in Bangladesh. It is one of the 11 cities of Bangladesh which are administrated by a city corporation Among the city corporations it is the youngest, only having been established in 2013. But it is the largest in size. Mirzapur Union is situated at the north of the city, in south Dhaka North City Corporation and Savar Yarpur Union are situated. In the east side there is Baria Union, Kaliganj Upazila, Gazipur and Sreepur Upazila, Gazipur. Mouchak and Maddhapara union of Kaliakair Upazila, and Shimulia and Damshona of Savar are at the west.

Its other name is Joydebpur.

Administration Gazipur City Corporation was formed from Gazipur and Tongi municipalities, in addition to the rural areas of Bashan, Gachha, Kashimpur, Kayaltia, Konabari and Pubail unions. Gazipur consists of fifty seven wards including Uttar Chayabithi and 31 mahallas with an area of 62 km² (24 sq mi).

Health There are many government and private hospitals and clinics in this city.Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College is the one of the biggest hospital in Gazipur city and the only public medical college in the city. Also the city has 2 private medical colleges with 36 private clinics and hospitals. The city also has 26 family planning clinics.

Air pollution levels in Gazipur (in Dhaka, Bangladesh) are extremely unhealthy. In 2020, annual average PM2.5 Air Pollution in Gazipur stood at 94.6 µg/m³, which is almost 18.9 times the World Health Organization PM2.5 Guideline (5 µg/m³: set in September, 2021). These pollution levels are estimated to reduce the Life Expectancy of an average person living in Gazipur by 8.8 years.

Gazipur has a population of over 1,199,215 people. Gazipur also forms the centre of the wider Gazipur District which has a population of over 5,263,474 people. It is also a part of the larger Greater Dhaka area.
