🇫🇷 Vauréal is a commune in the north-western suburbs of Paris, France. It is located 30.6 km (19.0 mi) from the centre of Paris, in the "new town" of Cergy-Pontoise, created in the 1960s.

French chocolate maker Henri Menier (1853–1913) had a château in Vauréal and named the 70-metre-high Vauréal Falls on Anticosti Island in Quebec province of Canada after the town.

Created under the impetus of the State, the new city of Cergy-Pontoise was created in 1971 and marked the real starting point for the development of Vauréal.

Transportation Vauréal is served by no station of the Paris Métro, RER, or suburban rail network. The closest station to Vauréal is Cergy – Le Haut station on Paris RER line A and on the Transilien Paris – Saint-Lazare suburban rail line. This station is located in the neighbouring commune of Cergy, 2.2 km (1.4 mi) from the town centre of Vauréal.

Economy In 2009, the average net hourly wage of the salaried population was 14.10 euros, with 12 euros for women and 16.2 euros for men. The average per professional category is between 9.8 euros for unskilled workers and 23 euros for executives.

The population has 7,608 tax households, of which 4,932 are taxable. The total declared tax income amounted to 208 million euros in 2009 for the municipality, an average income of 27,416 euros, and an average tax of 1,428 euros. The median income per household is 20,975 euros. For 64.8% of taxable households (i.e. 73.6% of households), the average income is 36,692 euros, compared to 10,319 euros for non-taxable households. Overall, income per household is at the same level as in 2006, with a slight increase for taxable households, and a slight decrease for non-taxable households, while in the comparison area, this income per household decreased by 1.7%.

68.8% of 5,005 households own their homes, 29.3% are tenants, 21.8% of whom are in HLM37.

Employment Of the population statistically of working age (between 15 and 65), i.e. 11,762 people, 75.2% are active, including 2,078 in the municipality, or an indicator of concentration of employment of 21.8%, reflecting its residential character. 1,066 people work in Vauréal, 3,195 in the Val-d'Oise, and 3,643 in other departments of the Paris region,

The unemployment rate was 9.7% in 2009, slightly higher for men than for women.

The 2,203 jobs available in the municipality depend mainly on the sectors of public administration, education, health, and social action (62%) of trade, transport and other services for 28%, agriculture representing only 9 jobs in 200937.
