El Paisnal is a municipality in the San Salvador department of El Salvador.

Geography: Location It is bordered to the north by Nueva Concepción (Chalatenango), to the east by Suchitoto (Cuscatlán) and Aguilares, to the south by Aguilares and Quezaltepeque (La Libertad) and to the west by San Pablo Tacachico.

It is located 40 km north of the city of San Salvador. The municipality has an area of 125.49 km².

History In 1868, the president Francisco Dueñas, taking into consideration the request of the inhabitants of the village of Paisnal contracted to be erected in town and that the documents accompanied to that request proved that it had the population base and other conditions required by the law of February 6th 1862 to be elevated to the rank of town, it issued the executive decree that decrees: that the valley of El Paisnal is erected as a town, that its inhabitants will proceed to elect a mayor, 2 councilors, a trustee, a judge of the peace and another alternate and that the jurisdiction of the People of the Paisnal will be limited to the area.

On April 20, 1893, during the administration of President Carlos Ezeta, the Secretariat of Public Instruction and Charity, at the proposal of the Director General of Public Education, agreed to the establishment of co-educational schools in the valleys of San Diego and El Rancho, whose endowments were 15 pesos per month each.

Title of Villa By legislative decree number 263 issued on February 1, 1973 and ratified by President Arturo Armando Molina on February 5, at the initiative of representative Francisco Javier Castro, the title of Villa was conferred on the People of El Paisnal for having "reached a high degree of progress in material, cultural, commercial and agricultural matters, also having a hundred years of holding the current category".

Administration It is divided into 12 cantons with their respective communities, subdivisions and colonies which are: El Jicarón, El Matazano, El Tronador, La Cabaña, Las Delicias, Las Ventanas, San Francisco Dos Cerros, Natividad, Potrero Grande, San Antonio Grande, San Rafael and San Diego. The head of the municipality is the town of El Paisnal.

Geography Its main rivers are the Lempa River, the Sucio River and the Matizate River, and its Las Ventanas and Nacimiento de Amayo hills.

Agriculture The most cultivated agricultural products are: cereals, sugar cane, cotton, watermelon and cassava. There are raisings of cattle and pigs; the same as poultry.
