Āreka, Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region, Ethiopia
🇪🇹 Areka is city in southern Ethiopia. Located in some 300 km south-west of the capital, Addis Ababa. This town has an elevation of 1774 meters above sea level. It is the administrative centre of Boloso Sore woreda. The Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research opened a centre in Areka in 1985 dedicated to improving the yield of enset.

Āreka has a population of over 80,690 people. Āreka also forms the centre of the wider Boloso Sore woreda which has a population of over 279,218 people.
