🇧🇷 Nossa Senhora do Socorro is a municipality located in the Brazilian state of Sergipe. Nossa Senhora do Socorro is located 36 km from the state capital of Sergipe, Aracaju.

Due to its proximity to the capital of Sergipe, the municipality has become a true dormitory city, as a result of the urban expansion of Aracaju in the 1980s and 1990s, having several housing complexes. Some of the largest neighborhoods and sets in urban areas of Nossa Senhora do Socorro are: Marcos Freire I, II and III, Albano Franco, Seixas Dória, João Alves Filho, Piabeta, São Braz, Fernando Collor, Taiçoca de Dentro, Taiçoca de Fora, Parque São José, Sobrado, Conjunto Jardim, Palestina and Parque dos Faroóis.

In the 21st century, the city began to have a spectacular economic growth, especially in the industrial and service sectors, surpassing revenues from municipalities in the interior of Sergipe traditionally economically strong, such as Estância, Lagarto and Itabaiana.

According to Jornal Nacional, it is one of the fastest growing cities in the Brazilian Northeast and Brazil.

History The historiography of Sergipe shows us that the territory of Sergipe was inhabited by several tribes. Mott (1986: 18 and 19) records the presence of whites, browns, blacks and Indians in the Sergipe ethnic group in the 18th century. It is noteworthy that each of these groups has its cultural peculiarities and contributed to the historical formation of the population of the various municipalities of Sergipe.

According to indications of GÓIS (1991: 19), the geographical space in which today are located some municipalities that were part of the microregion of Cotinguiba, in the 16th century was inhabited by Indians of the Tupinambá tribe.

Probably the occupation of Nossa Senhora do Socorro occurred around the same century, a period in which the colonization of the lands of the captaincy of Sergipe Del Rey began, a phase in which the Portuguese Crown determined the advance of colonization over the captaincy of Sergipe in 1575 (OLIVA: 1991:128).

Geography: Vegetation In the coastal part, coconut trees, undergrowth and sandbank forests predominate. Highlight for the mangroves that border the rivers of Sal, Cotinguiba and Sergipe. Soil: Yellow red podzolic.

1

Geography: Hydrography The municipality is bathed by the rivers of Sal, Cotinguiba and Sergipe.

1

Demography Since 1980, the municipality has undergone major urban transformations. The city's headquarters did not undergo major changes, however, the villages were the target of real estate developments that caused changes in areas previously occupied by mangroves and sparsely populated. These changes were a consequence of the Grande Aracaju project that aims to strengthen the state's economy, associating industrial activity with housing. From the installation of the sets, problems began to arise that the municipality has difficulties to solve, because there are no technical and financial resources in this structure to combat administrative difficulties associated with unemployment, violence and marginality.

Subdivisions The headquarters has a small population, but there are large urban agglomerations in the regions of the Taiçoca Complex (ensembles João Alves Filho, Fernando Collor, Taiçoca de Dentro e de Fora, Piabeta, Albano Franco, Marcos Freire I, II and III, and Venúzia Franco) and the Jardim Complex (ensembles Jardim and Parque dos Faroóis). Economy: Industry In the Industrial District of Nossa Senhora do Socorro, located in Conjunto João Alves Filho, there are concentrated food industries, knitwear, cement artifacts, tire renovars, candle factories, coconut milk, plaster, enameled ceramic laundries, upholstery, cosmetics, automotive parts, glass and mining. In 2004 local companies created ASSEDIS (Association of Companies of the Industrial District of Socorro) with the objectives of organizing the actions of improvement of the infrastructure and maintenance of the district. Due to tax incentives, the industry has grown a lot in recent years. Currently (2017) employs about 7,200 direct workers. The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics IBGE released at the end of 2004, statistics from the central register of companies for the year 2009. The municipality of Socorro was the one that most attracted companies between 1987 and 2002. It rose from 566 units in 1997 to 1,824 by December 2002. The percentage growth was 81.9%, well above the state, regional and national variations, which showed growth of 36%, 50.5% and 41.7% respectively.

Tertiary sector In a linked matter on September 27, 2010, the development of Nossa Senhora do Socorro was highlighted among the cities monitored throughout Brazil by the table "JN in the Air". On a visit to the city, reporter Ernesto Paglia addressed the great challenges expected for the growth of the municipality. In addition, emphasis was given to the entrepreneurship that takes over the dormitory city, exemplified by the construction with subsequent duplication of the Shopping Prêmio, this located in the Marcos Freire I housing complex and one of the newest developments in the State. This fact draws attention because the expansion was decided even before the end of the enterprise since its units were sold so quickly that, caused by the great demand and growth of the local market, its owner decided to double the said Shopping.

Already in 2017, at the end of the second half, the inauguration of another large commercial centre in the municipality began - MiniShopping São Braz. Located in the Marcos Freire II housing complex, the development has 41 stores (one of them being a 600-square-meter anchor that must be occupied by a supermarket chain), food court, parking and everything for the convenience of the clientele.

Services and communications Many AM radios in Aracaju, such as Jornal, Cultura, Aperipê, Xodó Fm and Liberdade have towers and diffuser system installed in this municipality.

1

Culture Regardless of these problems, because of its historical roots, the population of Nossa Senhora do Socorro has a great cultural development. There are also the folkloric manifestations represented by capoeira groups, June gangs in addition to Samba de Coco and Reisado dos Idosos. The carnival festivities in turn take place on the prainha do Porto Grande, in the headquarters of the municipality.

Afro-descendant culture is very important for our people. The Black Consciousness group promoted in 2003, for the first time, the 1º Cultural Meeting of Afro-Descendants, at the headquarters of the municipality. The event has already taken place twice and has included debates, round table, lectures and folk and cultural presentations. The meeting had the support of the Municipal Secretariat of Culture and Tourism. In the month of June, the Forró Siri event that brings together artists from Sergipe and Nationals has started. Its popular saying is "If Santo Antônio is aracajuano, if São Pedro is Capelense, São João is Socorrense".

Economy: Tourist Industry Prainha do Porto Grande - In the beginning it was a place taken by bush. Only fishermen had access to the place to anchor the boats. Not even bathing was allowed. Even so, the beauty of the Cotinguiba River began to arouse the interest of the general population. In 1984, a resident of the city named Marcos Teles, now deceased, brushed the bush and made a trail that gave access to the bank of the river, then building a kiosk. But it was in 1992, through the intervention of the mayor of the time, José Franco, that Ibama and Deso released public access. So he built the waterfront of Porto Grande, with eight bars, which were equipped with all the necessary structure. All the kiosks were donated by the City Hall. There is an interesting detail in the bars that bring names of fish and shellfish. Gradually, not only the people of Socorrense, but tourists were already frequenting the beach that today is a point of tourist attraction of the municipality. It is there where the carnival festivities also take place. The Porto Grande beach and the São Braz beach form the largest leisure complex in Nossa Senhora do Socorro, and are located by the river.

Orlinha de São Braz - Located on the banks of the Sal River,in the São Braz Village, the place became a tourist attraction after it was all urbanized and gained a wooden walkway with a beautiful view of the river and mangrove that crosses the region. It was the first work of Proinveste officially delivered to the population. The inauguration took place on February 8, 2015and was held by Governor Jackson Barreto and Mayor Fábio Henrique with the participation of the municipal and state secretaries, deputies, residents and political leaders. The new leisure space offers comfort to residents and stimulates local commerce, improving the quality of life of residents of the place and the Taiçoca complex.
