🇧🇷 Fazenda Rio Grande is a municipality in the state of Paraná in the Southern Region of Brazil.

History In 1879, Francisco Claudino Ferreira, next to the Parish of São José dos Pinhais, requested an area of land, with which he formed Fazenda Rio Grande, thus becoming the first landowner of the locality. This farm was formed on top of an old indigenous village, and the original name of the locality was Capocu.

The main activity of Fazenda Rio Grande was the breeding of purebred horses, whose biggest client was the Brazilian Army itself. In 1913, through the intermediation of João Bettega, Tobias Pereira da Cruz acquired from Fazenda Rio Grande an area of 487 bushels of land, and José Custódio dos Santos another 52.5 bushels in the core of the Maurício River.

From then on, the history of Fazenda Rio Grande is confused with the industrial and population expansionism of Curitiba, with direct action in the subdivision of the urban soil of the area corresponding to the current municipal headquarters. This fractionation resulted from the phenomena of urban occupation of the city of Curitiba. The increasing demand for people coming from the interior of the state and also from Santa Catarina, for areas where to live and the systemic loss of income, were combined with real estate business throughout the metropolitan region of the capital.

The areas of Fazenda Rio Grande, south of Curitiba, were one of the last strongholds of real estate speculation. The beginning of the allotment of Fazenda Rio Grande, peripheral vein of Curitiba, took place from 1959. From then on, until today it has not stopped happening. Since that date, 11,157 urban lots have been sold, in 39 allotments, in a total area of 6,740,337.32 square meters.

Farther from the municipal headquarters of Mandirituba and closer to the capital, the population of Fazenda Rio Grande was organizing their lives according to the big city, where there were more jobs and other urban services.

The city of Mandirituba was being pressured to offer the basic services of public transport, basic education, health and daycare centers.

The episcopal decree of the archbishop of Curitiba, D. Pedro Fedalto, created the Parish of São Gabriel da Virgem Dolorosa, on February 27, 1978, covered the entire area of Fazenda Rio Grande, and also the region of Ganchinho (Mandirituba). The parish was installed on March 5 of the same year, the first parish priest being Father Gabriel Figura.

By state law No. 7,521, of November 16, 1981, sanctioned by Governor Ney Braga, the administrative district of Fazenda Rio Grande was created, with territory belonging to the municipality of Mandirituba. In 1986, the construction and paving works of the marginal avenues to BR-116 were started by the DER. In the same year the Bus Terminal was started, with characteristics of a shopping centre, coming into operation the following year.

On January 26, 1990, through state law No. 9,213, sanctioned by Governor Álvaro Fernandes Dias, the district of Fazenda Rio Grande, was elevated to the category of emancipated municipality, with territory dismembered from the municipality of Mandirituba. The official installation took place on January 1, 1993.
