🇧🇷 Bacabal is a city in Maranhão, Brazil. It is located approximately 250 km south of the state capital São Luís. It is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bacabal.

The municipality contains a small part of the Baixada Maranhense Environmental Protection Area, a 1,775,035.6 hectares (4,386,208 acres) sustainable use conservation unit created in 1991 that has been a Ramsar Site since 2000.

Administrative training On April 17, 1920, State Law No. 932 created the district and the Municipality, with territory dismembered from São Luís Gonzaga do Maranhão. The installation took place on September 7 of the same year.

Transport: Road The city is cut by BR-316, which connects it to Alto Alegre do Maranhão. Access to Bacabal is made by a concrete bridge over the Mearim River. From Alto Alegre, distant from Bacabal about 43 km, you reach the capital São Luís by BR-135. It is also close to Bacabal the access to the state highway MA-247, which connects with São Luís Gonzaga do Maranhão.

For passenger transport there is the Bacabal Bus Station.

Health Belonging to the Medium and High Complexity System, it is the regional health centre of 11 other municipalities. It has the hospitals: • Maternal and Child Hospital (currently serving children from 0 to 12 years old, and pregnant women) (100 beds) • Laura Vasconcelos Regional Hospital (65 beds): state, of high and medium complexity, with care in general surgery, orthopedics, anesthesiology, radiology, nephrology, medical clinic, among others. • Veloso Costa Hospital - currently disabled - (275 beds, plus 18 beds in ICU) • BIORIM (Hemodialysis, with 22 proportion machines).
