๐ท๐บ Zheleznogorsk (ะะตะปะตะทะฝะพะณะพฬััะบ) is a town in Kursk Oblast, Russia, located 130 km (81ย mi) north-west of Kursk. Its population according to censuses taken in varying years is: 97,038 (2021 Census); 95,049 (2010 Census); 95,528 (2002 Census); 85,192 (1989 Soviet census).
1History Zheleznogorsk was founded in 1957 due to the development of iron ore deposits in the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly. It was granted town status in 1962.
1Geography Zheleznogorsky District is located in the north-west of Kursk Oblast, on the border with Oryol Oblast to the north. The terrain is hilly plain averaging 200 meters above sea level; the district lies on the Orel-Kursk plateau of the Central Russian Upland. The main river in the district is the Svapa River, which flows to the west through the district; it is a tributary in the Dniepr River basin. The district is 50ย km south-west of the city of Kursk, and 400ย km south-west of Moscow. The area measures 40ย km (north-south), and 30ย km (west-east). The administrative centre is the town of Zheleznogorsk.
The district is bordered on the north by Oryol Oblast, on the east by Fatezhsky District, on the south by Konyshyovsky District, and on the west by Dmitriyevsky District.
1Geography: Administrative status Within the framework of administrative divisions, Zheleznogorsk serves as the administrative centre of Zheleznogorsky District, even though it is not a part of it. As an administrative division, it is incorporated separately as the town of oblast significance of Zheleznogorskโan administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts. As a municipal division, the town of oblast significance of Zheleznogorsk is incorporated as Zheleznogorsk Urban Okrug. Basis of Zheleznogorsk economy is manufacturing. There are located 18 big industrial factories, the biggest among them is Mikhailovsky Mining and Refining Facility. In 2015 it produced 18% of total mining production in Russia.

Zheleznogorsk has a population of over 97,038 people. Zheleznogorsk also forms the centre of the wider Zheleznogorsky District which has a combined population of over 113,327 people.
