Economy The local economy has benefited from significant investment by the multinational pharmaceuticals company Pfizer, which built a research and development centre close to Sandwich, and 14 miles east of Canterbury, which is now run as a business park called Discovery Park Enterprise Zone. This is one of the largest business parks in Europe with a specialist focus on science and technology. The Zone has a wide variety of business support firms in place: from recruitment, to accounting, to legal services so that companies locating to Discovery Park benefit from its shared services.
