Kazan; Tatar: Казан IPA:, is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Tatarstan in Russia. The city lies at the confluence of the Volga and the Kazanka rivers. Kazan is the most populous city on the Volga, as well as the Volga Federal District.
Kazan is rated Sufficiency by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network (GaWC) which evaluates and ranks the relationships between world cities in the context of globalisation. Sufficiency level cities are cities that have a sufficient degree of services so as not to be overly dependent on world cities.
Kazan has a population of over 1,280,000 people. Kazan also forms part of the wider Kazan metropolitan area which has a population of over 1,650,431 people.
