🇫🇷 Isle is a commune in the Haute-Vienne department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in west-central France.

As of 2019, Isle is the fifth commune of the department (by population), after Limoges, Saint-Junien, Panazol and Couzeix.

History Isle was an ecclesiastical seigneury belonging to the bishops of Limoges. The castle of the bishops that was next to the church was demolished during the Revolution. The Limousin poet Jean Rebier "Major du Félibrige" (1879-1966) lived on his property in the hamlet of Mas de l'Aurence. The writer Robert Margerit (1910-1988) lived on Thias' property.

During the Revolution, the parish became a municipality. In 1792, it lost about a quarter of its area by the creation, in the part of its territory south of the Vienne, of the municipality of Bosmie-L'Aiguille.

The hamlet schools of Mas de l'Aurence (transferred from Mas des Landes) and Mérignac were closed in 1993.

From 1947 to 1953, the west of the municipality had a special deputy.

In 1979-1980, the JA Isle Football club reached the French 4th Division Championship, it rubbed shoulders with the big teams and then the great players Jean-Pierre Papin, Christophe Dugarry and Bixente Lizarazu walked the lawn of the Bayles stadium.
