Tokyo (東京都) is the political and economic center of Japan. It forms the centre of the Greater Tokyo Metropolitan area. The Greater Tokyo area is the most populous metropolitan area in the world, consisting of the Kantō region of Japan (including Tokyo Metropolis and the prefectures of Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama, Ibaraki, Tochigi and Gunma) as well as the prefecture of Yamanashi of the neighbouring Chūbu region. The region is often known as the Capital Region.
